IPD Journalism Training Director Anya Schiffrin was invited by the World Bank Institute to present research commissioned by IPD and Revenue Watch Institute on media coverage of the extractive sector. The working paper, Watchdog or Lapdog: Limits of African Media Coverage of the Extractive Sector, is co-authored by James Canonge, Matthew Purcell, and Matthew Behrman. Schiffrin discussed the findings and ways that African media can improve their coverage. Ugandan journalist and transparency expert Angelo Izama also spoke on the panel. The research is part of ongoing work on African media that IPD and Schiffrin are engaged in.
